The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit was re-established in 2009 when Sheriff Joey Terrell took office. The K-9 Unit is currently comprised of four dual purpose K-9 teams cross-trained in narcotics detection, and one explosive detection. Since its inception, the K-9 Unit has responded to numerous calls for service from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Our K-9 Unit has been responsible for the seizure large quantities of controlled substances, the apprehension of numerous criminals, locating missing persons, locating evidence and proceeds from crimes scenes, and the seizure of large amounts of currency used in criminal activity.
